We are 2/3 of the way through gestation. Still 3 weeks to go until delivery. The puppies have grown considerably again. Last week they were around 3 centimeters. Now they are about 4.5 centimeters and they weigh about 6 grams.

The kidneys are now working. As a result, the eyes are now closed. The ear is shaped and even the nose is finished! From birth, smell will be the most important sense for puppies. They are born with their eyes and ear canals closed. They find their mother and brothers and sisters by smell. Skin color, hair, nails and eyelids can be distinguished.
The skeletons will now strengthen. From this moment until birth, growing is almost the only thing the fetus does. They depend on the placenta for nutrition and the lungs are not yet ready to take in oxygen

Lily is still sleeping and resting a lot. She hardly plays anymore and still likes to cuddle. Her appetite has not changed.

Since last week, Lily her menu has changed. Not much had changed so far, she just got less liver because it contains vitamin A. This can cause rejection of the fetuses at the beginning of pregnancy. Now that is completely reversed. She gets a lot of liver, fatty fish, eggs and a little bit of dairy. The proportion of bone is decreasing. Lily now also gets carbohydrates in the form of brown rice, boiled (sweet) potatoes and oatmeal. We will slowly increase the amount and divide it over several feeding moments in a day. Normally Lily ate 250 grams per day, this was increased to 325 grams last week and from this week on it will be 375 grams per day.

Lily was also measured and weighed again this week:

WeightWaist circumference
Day 110 kg38 cm
Day 710,1 kg38 cm
Day 1410 kg39 cm
Day 2110,1 kg40,5 cm
Day 2810 kg40,5 cm
Day 3510,4 kg42 cm
Day 4211,1 kg47 cm

Lily has gained a lot of weight this week! This week 700 grams were added, making the total 1.1 kilos! The centimeters also continue to grow nicely, with an increase in waist size of 5 centimeters.

Lily is now clearly wider again at her ribs and her belly hangs lower. She also walks differently, she waddles more. Fortunately, she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it much. It does become more difficult for her to clean herself, because her belly is starting to get in the way.
